Entry Requirements
A valid passport is compulsory for all visitors. All visitors, except citizens from ECOWAS states, need a visa which can be obtained from the Ghanaian diplomatic mission or consulate, represented in most capitals worldwide.
Airline Travel
Ghana is connected to all continents with direct flights from and to major capitals in Europe, USA, Middle East and Africa. Ghana Airways, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, British Airways, Alitalia, South African Airways, Middle East Airlines, Ethiopian Airlines and Kenya Airways are amongst the airlines frequenting Accra’s Kotoka International Airport.
Health Precautions
A valid international yellow fever vaccination certificate is required as proof of vaccination within the past ten years. Sometimes when there is a cholera outbreak, a cholera shot is also required. You are also advised to consult your doctor well in advance of your visit so that you may begin the usual malaria treatment.
Transport
Once in Ghana, taxis, long distance buses, rental cars and an extensive road network will enable you to reach all outskirts of the country. When driving yourself, an international driver’s license is required. Beechcraft planes (from 6 to 19 passengers) are used to admire Ghana from a different perspective while moving in little time from one side of the country to the other.
VISITING TIMES
Ghana can be visited year-round. Average temperature ranges from 21C in April-September to 32 C in October-March. Constant breezes and light rainfall during the nights (from April to June and from September to October) create an ideal tropical climate.
Climate
In Southern Ghana the rains last from April to June and again from September to October.
Generally, Temperatures are between 21°C and 32°C. Northern Ghana has a rainy season from about April to October. The rest of the year is hot and dry with temperatures up to 38°C
Visas
A valid passport is required by all visitors. A visa is required for entry into Ghana (except for citizens of the ECOWAS states). A visa can be obtained from the nearest Ghanaian diplomatic missions and consulates.
Currency
The monetary unit is the Ghanaian Cedi (¢). Traveller’s cheques – all banks and forex bureau traveler’s cheques.
Language
The official language of Ghana is English, although we have many other languages based on ethnic groups.
Exportation of Handicrafts
If you should decide to purchase a significant quantity of Ghanaian handicraft items, such as wood carvings, trading beads etc. please go to the Museums and Monuments boards in Accra to obtain an export permit.
Electricity
If you bring along any electrical appliances, they should operate on 220 volts. Electrical outlets accept either three pronged, and sometimes two pronged, British or continental European type plugs or converters.
